Jack Smugler

Our principal is Jack Smugler, a proverbial ‘Jack of all trades.’ Amongst other activities, he has studied psychology at Simon Fraser University, completed a diploma in Mechanical Technology from the B.C. Institute of Technology, managed a shipyard on a reserve in Bella Bella, B.C., gotten frostbite sleeping in an igloo he built on an Outward Bound course, assembled hydraulic cherry-pickers, developed non-profit co-operative housing, worked for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation as a housing policy analyst, developed government policies on urban sustainability and represented Canada at several United Nations meetings on sustainable development. He credits his business philosophy to his father – a tailor from Poland who valued honesty and service above all else. His more traditional credentials and affiliations include:
